Shakespeare: The Taming of the Shrew Of all the excellent play writers this world has ever seen, William Shakespeare is agreed to be one of the all-time greats. In his time on earth, Shakespeare wrote around 40 plays. He wrote comedies to make viewers laugh, as well as tragedies with the intent to make his audiences get a more emotional reaction. He was very effective at making his audience feel what he intended for them to in each instance. One of the most well-known comedies is The Taming of the Shrew. This play was first presented in 1593, and the setting is also in the 16th-century.
