With over seven billion people living around the world today the forest that inhabits millions of different species of animals is being torn down for human settlement each day. Earth's rainforests are home to over 50 percent of the world's species and nearly 80,000 acres of rainforest are destroyed each day (Scientific American). Although there are thousands of animals species that are endangered, the tiger is one of the most important species that comes to mind. The tiger is the largest member of the cat family and can weigh up to 700 pounds. They feed on many different kinds of animals such as deer, wild cattle, and wild boar which is hardly a chore for the most ferocious member of the cat family. Besides being a professional hunter there are many interesting facts that make the tiger a truly amazing creature such as their ability to swim very well and the fact that they can leap as far as 10 meters (earthsendangered.com). Tigers are one of the most territorial animals on earth and will attack anything that makes them feel threatened in the slightest way. When it comes to offspring the female tiger can give birth to up to four cubs which will remain with the mother for approximately 18 months.
As of today there are fewer than 3,000 wild tigers and projections show the species being extinct within the next 20 years if something is not done to stop them from becoming hunted (Why Save The Tiger). The main cause for the depletion of the tiger is due to the illegal poaching of the animals for their skins and bones. One other big reason for the tiger to become endangered is the fact that there habitat is being destroyed more and more everyday.
