As a zookeeper there are many responsibilities. Zookeepers do not have much time off during the day. Zookeepers are always doing something (Crocker). Additionally, Mike Crocker, who is the director at Dickerson Park Zoo, said, “They work five days a week and every day they check on the animals, feed and clean them. They have an hour break for lunch, then go back to their work. They work on projects and stay busy all day long doing something.” Zookeepers are always moving around with a project to do, whether it is feeding or cleaning animals, fixing a cage, or going to a school and telling kids about the zoo. …show more content…
There are only 241,600 jobs available, and they have to be emptied to fill them (Occupational). According to Crocker, “It is tough to become a zookeeper. There is a lot of competition, college degree is recommended, and not many openings are available.” Mike Crocker also said, “The budget gets tougher every year. People don’t like zoos because they think they are harming the animals. Zoos also run out of animals because they won’t breed.” Therefore, if someone wants a job as a zookeeper, that person would hope someone just retired so they can take their job.
