The article in question is explaining the health risks of kids in foster care. Some kids that has been in the foster care system are at a significant higher risk of mental and physical abuse as well as health problems; which can make learning a challenge, depression, behavioral issues, and health problems compared to kids that aren’t a part of the foster care system. The researchers are trying to figure out why so many kids in foster care suffer with so many health conditions compared to kids that aren’t in foster care. A large scale study was done and data was extracted from 2011 -2012
National Survey of Children’s Health. (McGill, 2016)
The method used for this study quantitative and this is a type of study that is only getting stats from a certain group of kids in foster care. Some of the abuse I still believe is the cause of majority of problems that some of the abuse a child has to deal with while in foster care is still a huge problem yet to be fixed. The Department of Social Services is not being held accountable for the continuing abuse those kids has to endure. The foster care system is so over crowed with kids we fail to realize some of the homes that kids are placed are sometimes far worse than what they have been through in their biological homes. (McGill, 2016)
In this study, the physicians used data from more than 900,000 kids’ survey which 1.3 % has gone through foster care system. The research has strengths and limitation on the amount of resources was able to be captured on such a subject where holes can get through because of the caseloads on social workers placing kids. A human subject was used to get the statistics for the survey. In conclusion, the informative information based on the health condition of kids in foster care will be very helpful of years to come if physicians continue to research these matters of importance of our children in foster care.
