Like that of childhood cancer survivors, children refugees survive extreme life threatening situations that distort their outlooks on life and experiences. It is no surprise, that researchers have found that repression is the highest used defense mechanism by children and adolescent refugees (Huemer, al. et, 2012). However, although some researchers have found the ability of refugee children to continue living and adapt to be a result of their use of the defense mechanism of repression. Others call it that ability resilience and count it a result of the children’s desire and strength.
