As you are aware, I was recently instructed to assign 2 Investigators in plain clothes to every Metro committee meeting and board meeting until further notice. As before, I still have no idea why we were tasked with sending plain clothes officers to committee meetings much less 2 Investigators, but I followed the instructions. It appears that these additional assignments are detrimental to the follow up Investigations we conduct of criminal incidents that are occurring on the Metro system.
In the past we (CID) were responsible to send one plain clothes officer to the monthly Board Meeting. This has now changed to six meetings for July alone. These meetings are at various times of day and seem to running back to back this month. The reason for this email is my concern over what the effect is to the quality of our follow up investigations by moving the investigator from his current investigations to cover a committee meeting. Please keep in mind CID has 3 - Investigators and 1- video technician. The gang officer has been reassigned to back grounds until further notice. Last month (June) I assigned 58 part 1 crimes for follow up investigation and 118 video pull / process requests. For the month of July we are already at 46 Part 1 Crimes assigned to Investigators.
