“A history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having, in direct object, the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these States.” Jefferson chose these words to let the people know how bad being with Britain was. The king was a tyrant with the states and had caused them to suffer.
Every sentence is started with “He” It shows the importance of saying that the King is the one to blame for everything that has happened. …show more content…
It affects the rhythm by making it much more monotone and just giving you a statement with no effect to it.
The phrase makes the readers sympathize because it says the sole purpose to tire them down to get on his side of a decision.
Jefferson's tone is incisive. He says “already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the head of a civilized nation.” The word choice is basically saying that the King is unworthy of ruling the states because of his cruelty and this shows how much the states want to break away from Britain.
“We have warned them, from time to time, of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us.” and “We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here.” both of these lines are parallel to each other because it shows that even though they warned and told the king about becoming free states he did not listen to them or their warnings.
“Appealed to their native justice and magnanimity” shows that they have tried to work with them because of their common ties but they aren’t having it anymore they can’t handle the
injustice.
Jefferson's tone is earnest when he says that they are breaking away from Britain and the Kings cruel ruling and proudly becoming The United States of America. “by the authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare, that these United Colonies are, and of right to be, Free and Independent States.”
Examples of parallelism and repetition is “These United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, Free and Independent states” and “as free and independent states they have full power”. This all helps his main purpose which is that the states should be free and can do whatever they want to do.
