Thomas Jefferson: Hypocrisy Or Acceptable?
If I were to grade Thomas Jefferson based upon his words and actions regarding slavery I would give him an C+ because of his hypocrisy, his decisions, and his inability to do the right thing. Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the united states earning the title after defeating the 2nd president John Adams in an electoral vote. He was a founding father of the United States and and the main author of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Virginia and died July 4, 1826 in Virginia.
I believe jefferson meant what he said when he said that “all men were created equal.” The reason I believe he meant what he said was because he tried to make living conditions and labor better for slaves. But I don’t
think he stood by that belief. What I mean is that if all men are created equal then what are slaves aliens? No slaves are humans too but people were still allowed to force them into manual labor and starve them and whip them.
The reasons I gave Jefferson a grade of a C+ because of his hypocrisy and his decisions regarding slavery. The reasoning for me calling him a hypocrite was because he would always talk about how slavery was a bad thing and how all men are created equal but he still allowed it to happen. I mean he was the president so a person would think he could abolish slavery but I believe he thought it would turn people against him and think he could not be the president. My other reason for giving him the grade I did was because of his decisions regarding slavery. What I mean by decisions is that instead of abolishing slavery like he had the power to do he turned it into a political campaign and tried to make slavery “better for slaves.” Even though you can never make being forced out of your home country to do manual labor “better.”
One reason a person who might give Jefferson a higher grade is he was a good candidate for the presidential election. Another reason is he did try to make his slaves conditions better. A reason a person might give him a low grade is because he was a anti-federalist.
In my opinion Jefferson deserves a grade of a B for his actions regarding slavery because he was a good person with morals. Also he was against slavery he just sided with everyone else. Another reason is he believed in a strict government but always talked about equality.
