The theory of practice of teaching and interpreting knowledge, also known as education, is generally percepted in society to be the surest path to achieving success in one's lifetime. Over the centuries, the system of learning has changed jurastically and has presented itself in a number of different ways to a variety of cultures and civilizations. When we were children, the world around us was derived by curiosity and exploration. By learning, we found satisfaction in our desires that no other activity could fulfill. Our imaginations were the basis of our childhood, allowing us to play, do schoolwork, build friendships, learn to do tasks, solve problems and eventually allowed us to see things from different perspectives. Now, as functioning adults, we look at children with an admiration for their ability to use their minds in such a manner. Why must we look up to them for it? Is it because we have forgotten how to use our creative minds? Why is it that we must admire them, rather than join them in creative thinking? For this assignment, I chose Sir Ken Robinson’s talk on how schools kill the creativity of the children they teach. In his roughly 20 minute speech in Monterey California, in February 2006, he took center stage to deliver a humorous monologue on the spark of creativity. He pointed out that it was his belief that everyone has an interest in education, and it runs deep with us as a society, because it drives the way our culture performs.
