The system has to apply the law in a way that is effective to be able to maintain that balance and control of the community. In the law dictionary it defines what is the law and states “that the law is a set of rules that if broken subjects a party to criminal punishment or civil liability, and that laws in the United States are made up by federal, state, and local legislators, judges, the president, state governors, and administrative agencies and that the highest law in the Unites States is the U.S Constitution. As stated by the definition of the law is the beginning of the balance that that has been put in place to protect the community of individual rights. From the laws that are written is where the process of public order begins. It is made of the law enforcement officials (police), prosecutors, courts, and prison facilities. When you put all of these elements together it makes up the Criminal Justice System. In my research I found that the government of the United States gives the police the power to protect the community and their property from any type of harm, and to guarantee the security of its citizens. In the middle of the 1840’s, New York was the first state to have the first paid police force and at the end of the nineteenth century every city in the United States had its own police force. The role of a police officer is to serve and protect. They use a variety of methods to protect citizens from many different threats from modern technology to identifying possible threats and help prosecution incarcerate those who commit crimes.
