Retirement
There are many reasons I want to keep a job after retirement. The three most important factors I considered in making this decision is being financially stable, physically and mentally active and to feel I have purpose in my life. Retirement in today’s economy is very different than when my grandparents retired. After working in the Food Industry for thirty years, I started attending college in my late forties. So not working after retirement is not really an option. I don’t need or want an extravagant life, but do want to live my sunset years in comfort. I feel to do this I will work as long as I am able. I want to have more for my husband and me than just a fixed income from social security. There are no guarantees how long that system will last and I want to depend on myself and my own resources. Another reason for working after retirement is to keep physically and mentally active. I believe having a routine and the exercise I get each day due to my job will keep my body in shape. The more exercise you get on a day to day basis the better off you will be when you are no longer working. Working also keeps your mind active. Doing task as simple as driving to work, paperwork, conversing with coworkers, and your performance on your job are all ways to keep your body and mind active. Last, working after retirement will help me to feel I still have purpose in my life. Many things factor in what I consider gives me purpose in my life, but my job and helping people is very important tome.my job is much more than a job to me. I love helping people and my job enables me to do that. I get enjoyment in helping someone overcome their battle with addiction, I feel if you have a job that gives you purpose, retirement will pass you by without much pause. I think if you are lucky enough to do something you love it doesn’t feel like work anyway. I think I would get very bore if I did not work. Finances, physical and mental activity, and
