Returning to Dwell in the Country by T’ao Ch’ien expresses a feeling of freedom. The narrator feels as if he’s trapped in a cage (like I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) and gets released to nature, feeling free only when he’s with nature. As a child, he didn’t have anything and the only thing he could ever count on was nature, he was freed after 13 years. He loved nature
and would do anything to protect his fields and gardens
My Heart Leaps Up expresses a feeling of being related to nature. The narrator feels as if nature is a part of them and whenever they see the beauty that is nature, their heart speeds up because nature makes them that excited. Occasionally the narrator will have darker days than they would like and they would like but they see the bright colors nature has to offer and wishes it would lit up their life like that with all that color. The narrator loves nature so much that he rather either grow old and or happy and bright like nature or just die.
The Sun expresses the love of nature. The narrator thinks the sun, the sunset, and the landscaping are the sunset with pink and purple clouds are just the absolute most beautiful scenery ever. She describes a sunset as “as red flower” that will come back every morning no matter what. She believes that nothing, not even love, is as beautiful as the sunset because the sunset provides you with warmth and will come back everyday when no one or nothing can do that.
These three poems represent the magnificent way nature affects you and a feeling of freedom, a feeling related to nature, and a love of nature. Nature can affect humans in a variety of ways and each person can have a different viewpoint than another. It’s an escape for some people because the beauty of nature makes people less stressed and gets their mind off of the real world for a second. Nature is all around us, it has and always will be, there’s no place on this Earth that doesn’t have nature surrounding it.
