This source’s point of view shows that the “Dark Ages” in Europe were violent and dangerous. I saw this point of view in the quotes, “In the same year the heathen broke in upon the Christians at many points, but more than twelve thousand of them died. Another party of invaders devastated Gaul, and more than six hundred of them died. ” and “A great famine in Saxony so that many were forced to live on horse meat.…

These ages were a time of chaos and a decline in everything or having no stability of the resources or the economy in the Europe. In the 1700s women had little to no equality, so they started to try and reform society. The philosophers during the Age of Enlightenment used logic, reason, and observation to find truths in society. They used their theories to try and change society for the better, influencing not only regular citizens but other philosophers as well. However, not all the changes and ideas they had made were good; they also influenced people in France to start the French Revolution which ended the Age of Enlightenment. The main concepts of the enlightenment theorists were; Locke's idea of self-government, Voltaire's idea of equality in religion, and Wollstonecraft’s idea of gender equality.…

The Middle Ages was an interesting time period. All around the world things were happening, but the spotlight stayed on Europe. The Middle Ages was a period of insecurity, famine, and religious war. Christianity was the main focus of religion in the Middle Ages. As a system called Feudalism rose, many people turned toward God as a safe haven. For many people there was not much to live for. I do not believe the Middle Ages reflected darkness or embodied ignorance. Even though this period had centuries to produce new technology, they still contributed in the molding of today’s society. Their contribution was the improved innovation on “borrowed” technology. When people refer to the Middle Ages as “dark,” they might be associating the “darkness” with the looming death that engulfed the period.…

A good case in point is the poetry of Basho Matsuo whose work is often considered by Western critics and observers as the highest representation of Japanese haiku. By and large, the intricacies of Basho's writings in the haiku form are only understood with effort by Western readers. By examining one of his famous haiku, it is possible to take note of those aspects of Basho's writings which are intrinsic to the aesthetic power of his work and also which may be slightly beyond easy appraisal for many readers.…
