1. General provisions of requirement for animal of panda. (20 marks)

The panda’s diet will include the following things. Firstly, the main food provided for the panda is bamboo. This includes yellow groove bamboo and Bisetti bamboo; both are used at the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington DC. If possible, 200 g. of fresh bamboo leaves should be offered daily to each animal. It is desirable to obtain representative samples of the bamboo offered throughout the year and to have them chemically analyzed. Such an analysis is best conducted in a forage laboratory such as those of the local university or agricultural agencies. Protein (CP), fat (EE), acid detergent fiber (ADF), calcium (Ca) and phosphorous (P) are the main nutrients needed. If bamboo samples are similar in composition to the biscuit portion of the diet then more bamboo may be offered than the recommended 200 g of bamboo leaves, up to a maximum of 400g. If bamboo is unavailable or seasonally available then fiber must be incorporated into the concentrate portion of the diet (the biscuit). If an appropriate biscuit is not provided than an additional fiber source such as ground beet pulp must be provided in some acceptable form (possibly unsweetened gruel) or through and adequate source of grass and plants in the enclosure. These constitute the principal diet of pandas.
Also, pandas are fed leaf-eater biscuits daily which provide them with vitamins and minerals. Every effort should be made to convert pandas to a nutritionally complete biscuit (pellet/cake is included in this term) diet. It is important to note that if one biscuit does not prove palatable, others may be used as long as they fall within the nutrient

Lee begins to assess the day-to-day quality of the !Kung by keeping records of their food sources and water sources. He makes table depicting the !Kung’s movements during dry season to wells of fresh water. He documents how many different groups stay at which well. He tables all the available species of crops and food and comes to the conclusion that out of 75 percent of the listed species of food the !Kung are only using a selected few. One of the most utilized food is Mongongo nut that will grow in harsh weather conditions. A !kang was documented saying “why should we plant, when there are so many mongongo nuts in the world”. These charts indicate that the !Kung are not living from hand to month on the verge to starvation as previously believed. It seems that red pandas eat on the ground. the red panda may live alone, in pairs, or in family groups. Red pandas primarily eat bamboo leaves and fresh shoots, as well as berries, blossoms, bird eggs, and various plants' small leaves. They have a small, bony projection on their wrists that helps them grip bamboo stalks. Giant pandas also have this thumb-like adaptation. The litters generally contain one or two young that are born in spring after a gestation period of about 130 days. The animal is gentle and easily tamed but usually resents being handled. It is a very popular zoo animal and is frequently involved in the animal…

At Zoo Atlanta there are four troops of Lowland Gorillas although only three are located on the yards right now. The three different groups are Taz's group, Ozzie's group, and the Bachelor males. While observing the different groups Taz's was the most active and therefore I decided to observe them especially during feeding. Feeding was at two fifteen in the afternoon and the feeder stood on top of the building that had a huge glass window to watch out. A volunteer gave the following information to me or I observed it for myself during my visit. Every group eats about six times a day including snacks. The most important meal being breakfast just like anatomically modern humans is served right before or right as the park opens. This meal is cute up in small pieces and scattered throughout the park so that they must forage for the food since this is what they would have to do in the wild. Before this meal they are served pre-breakfast which is considered a primate chow very similar to what dogs eat made my pedigree. They also get snacks…
