The First Phase started in New England and was viewed as police action (Schultz, 2014, pg. 105). The Second Phase was in the Middle Colonies and was considered a more traditional war where the British were fighting large military battles and taking the capital (Schultz, 2014, pg. 106). The Third Phase was fought in the South with Guerrilla warfare (Schultz, 2014, pg. 106). The Colonists’ plan was to run and survive and to only attack when they were convinced of victory (Schultz, 2014, pg. 106). At the beginning of the war, the British had most of the success (Schultz, 2014, pg. 106). The Colonists were having a hard time recruiting more troops because they were losing too many battles (Schultz, 2014, pg. 106).
