How did the United States of America begin? Well through many battles, not all fought with physical weapons America gained and struggled for its independence. This took much effort on our part and the decision to never to give up. What is this time and what happened in it, well not all people know the answer to this simple inquiry. Named the Revolutionary period, wars were fought, with opinions, weapons, and words.
The Revolutionary period went from 1764 to 1789. It marked a time of new inventions and new ideas. Inventions and ideas that have shaped our modern society and turned it into what we know today. However, unlike the war to come later on, fought with weapons of mass destruction waged on the physical level, this was one fought with opinions and verbal disputes. It was a political struggle waging between Great Britain and the Colonies. This political struggle led up to the climax of the start of the Revolutionary War.
Someone in history who influenced the political struggle during the Revolutionary period would be Alexander Hamilton. “Born in the West Indies, Hamilton moved to the mainland in 1772 and entered King’s College the following year. By 1774 he was speaking at public meetings and writing revolutionary essays, and in 1776 he became a captain of artillery” (History.com).
Hamilton moved to America to get an education around 1772 at the young age of 17. Then only two years later, he started his participation in the political struggle of the revolutionary period at the still young age of 19. He did this by public speaking, sharing his political views and gathering support for them as well. He fostered support for the Revolution through means such as these. Which of course greatly helped our country coming to be. Long after the days of Alexander Hamilton, the views of individuals and groups of people are still conveyed, through some of the same means and some different.
