During this time period experts had conducted case control studies in order to compare children who previously had a viral infection but did not develop reye's syndrome to children that did develop the disease. With this research a connection was recognized between aspirin and reye's syndrome. A alternative acetaminophen for aspirin was promoted called tylenol. This resulted in a dramatic decrease in the occurrence of reye's syndrome. It has been and will continue to be a key solution for the intervention of reye's syndrome.
