RFID based power monitoring system
The main objective of this project is to avoid the wastage of power in

educational institutions, offices and other technical institutions. Power cuts are the

major threat in our country now due to inadequate availability of electrical energy.

Our focus in this project is to save electrical energy by reducing the wastage of

power. In our project the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) plays a prominent

role. The main thing in this project is to control the wastage of power in an

institution. In each department the RFID sensors are provided in every room. The

entry mode in RFID helps to determine the presence or absence of a person. RFID

not only deals with the attendance of a person and also plays a role in power

saving. After his/her depart from the room automatically the lights and fans will be

switched OFF even when they are switched ON. The electrical equipments in the

room do not relate with the power switches, they are controlled only with the data

entered in RFID. In modern society everyone wants to have technical related

activities to make their work as simple as possible, in that approach this project

finds application in it. The major advantage beyond this project is that it is

economically suitable for all, as it is least expensive and does not include any

additional features. The bidirectional visitor control system in this project monitors

the count of persons present in the room to make the control of power in one area.

This system does not include any practical difficulties, as it can be easily operated by

The disadvantages of RFID are dead areas, orientation problems, security concerns, ghost tags, unread tags, and proximity issues. RFID works similar to the way a cell phone or wireless network does. Like these technologies, there may be certain areas that have weaker signals or interference. In addition, poor read rates are sometimes a problem when the tag is rotated into an orientation that does not align well with the reader. These issues are usually minimized by proper implementation of multiple readers and use of tags with multiple axis antennas. Because RFID is not a line-of-sight technology like barcoding, new security issues could develop. For…
