1. Because the prejudice in appearance is still existed, and it is never over when the bias based on appearance is still existed in somewhere else in the world. Even prejudice
Purpose and Audience
1. I think Rhode does assume that her readers area aware of the problem she discusses.
She points out the problem in her essay. “We all know that appearance matters, but the price of prejudice can be steeper than we often assume.”( Rohede 202)
4. To me, Rhedo’s purpose is to persuade readers on her claim.
She pointed out the appearance matters in the U.S, and gave specific examples of how people are discriminated by their appearances. These factors will a key to make readers feel sympathetic and stand up to fight for an equal right,
and principle laws against prejudice in appearance.
Style and Structure
1. These examples illustrate the unreasonable behaviors that others treat people with disabilities, gender, and appearance. For instance: an obese woman was rejected for job as a bus driver when a company doctor assumed she was not up to do the task after watching her. Or Nikki, a lesbian was denied a photo in her high-school year book because she would not pose in a scoop-necked dress.
To me, I think Rhode shouldn’t have made her point with fewer examples developed in more depth. Persuasive essay needs more examples to persuade readers to believe in our point rather than showing our opinions that will not make sense to readers.
2. To me, Rhode does not respond effectively to these objections. She better emphasizes or gives examples of the consequences that a company/a group has to compensate or solve to people who were discriminated rather than just say an airline starts to hire male attendant. OR jazzercise changes its policy.
