1976 was the first time in the United States history where presidential candidates would debate head to head, sharing the stage and increasing competition. Gerald Ford was expected to come ahead, but his opponent Jimmy Carter was perceived as confident and a fierce contender. Many argue that Gerald Ford’s downfall was due to the pardon of President Nixon, while others thought he faltered during the live broadcasted debate in San Francisco, with his response to his “international policy leadership.” (CNN Time) Nevertheless, come election day, Jimmy Carter was the new Commander in Chief. Although their rivalry was aggressive, the two stayed friends and worked closely on many national matters, such as “the Panama Canal treaties, nuclear armaments control with the Soviet Union and the Camp David accords.” (Carter) President Carter spoke at Ford’s funeral and Carter’s speech is a great example of how a speaker can convey condolence and affection for a worth adversary and friend.…
Summarizing his standpoint on the Nixon presidency, Zinn claims, that due to Nixon, the system was “out of control.” The author declares Watergate scandals a “political disgrace” to both the Nixon administration and the American people. Yes, Zinn believes many of Nixon’s political ploys adhered to Nixon above the people of the US. Zinn provides his audience with the numbers of the unnecessary casualties in the Cambodia bombing (55,000), describes Nixon’s fake letters and press and later, the president’s illegal corporation deals.…
John F Kennedy delivered one of the finest speeches on January 20, 1961 after being sworn into office. His inauguration speech was so powerful that it captured the entire nation attention, and quotes from it are still remembered by people today. It is one of the finest speeches ever written. It provides a strong appeal to pathos, ethos and logos, and it is because of this that people who never heard the speech can quote lines from it.…
In former US President Jimmy Carter’s Foreword to Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: Seasons of Life and Land, A Photographic Journey, he writes about his stance on the controversial debate of whether or not to preserve the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Carter claims that the human-spoiling of the pristine tundra and the life the ecosystem holds is not worth the little “benefits” it would cost “America’s only Arctic Refuge.” The author utilizes authoritative sources and his personal hands-on experiences, diction and rhetorical devices, and logical and emotional appeal to further convince the readers to believe and trust his judgment on the situation. Carter uses multiple different sources of authority and personal connections.…

When Carter entered the Democratic Party presidential primaries in 1976, he was considered to have little chance against nationally better-known politicians. His name recognition was two percent. As the Watergate scandal of President Nixon was still fresh in the voters' minds, Carter's position as an outsider, distant from Washington, D.C., became an asset. He promoted government reorganization. Carter published Why Not the Best? in June 1976 to help introduce himself to the American public.how it hurt President Carter: Jimmy Carter's lack of Washington experience made it hard for him to have the appropriate connections to pull strings and get bills…
Clinton has been content in recent weeks to sit back and let Trump be the news, letting him make his own bold claims and be the focal point of the campaign. But the roles were switched on Thursday. During the speech in Reno, Nev., Clinton went all out. And she almost seemed to take a page out of Trump’s playbook. She used bold claims to paint a dark picture of a Trump who isn't just an unwitting bigot, but rather someone intentionally advocating racist policies in the United States. And not only does she have a valid point on this topic, but many things that has been said by him lean toward him being racist.…

Moreover, Barack Obama in a press conference reflecting on his first 100 days in office, was asked about his plans to address unemployment in the Black and Latino communities and his response was troubling, exhibiting a foreshadowing of what was to come, of those expecting radical changes, which would disappoint his most ardent supporters (p. 170). Obama responded by announcing that his focus was on bringing the economy back, after the disastrous legacy of George W. Bush, and using the strategy that that will help all people who will benefit by the positives of a strong economy (175). This set the tone for the entire Obama Presidency, the idea that the government will not specifically address issues that target Blacks but will advance programs…
Certain events in life I don’t need the help of being reminded, I just know. Like today’s date, I know without looking it up or having to have someone remind me, I know that today is the anniversary date marking the end my mother’s earthly life, and the beginning of her eternal life.…
Hardball by Chris Matthews is an interpretation of what many know as “hard-politics”. The book describes the skill of playing the game in Washington and how to be successful at it. The book is a guide that teaches a series of maxims that would be in favor of politicians to learn in order to be successful. The different tactics provided in the book hold a lot of knowledge that would make the life of anyone following these strategies much easier when trying to get ahead in life. Matthews describes a countless number of examples of successful politicians that rose to the top. Those politicians are the ones who learned how to play hardball in Washington.…
The former president writes of, “windswept coastal plain where polar bears and caribou give birth, to the towering Brooks Range where Dall sheep cling to cliffs and wolves howl in the midnight sun.” Imagination, above all else, is the most effective form of illustration. While a camera can document experiences, the superior images that writing on paper create are akin to magic. These images connect a reader to a place that s/he may have never visited-only read about. Carter has created the painting of a world through imagery based on his own experiences and allowed readers to connect to this world via their own imagination. The world is further built when Carter writes, “In a matter of a few minutes, the sweep of tundra before us became flooded with life, with the sounds of grunting animals and clicking hooves filling the air. The dramatic procession of the Porcupine caribou herd was a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife spectacle.” Once-in-a-lifetime is correct, however through imagery, readers are able to experience this ‘once-in-a-lifetime- experience. While I’m sure Carter would rather use a Vulcan mind meld to share his experiences down to the last detail, sounds and visuals strengthen the former president’s world and make it more…
