Rhetorical Analysis: Presidential Candidate Donald Trump

Pathos one of the three modes of persuasion in rhetoric which is used to persuade an audience by appealing to a crowds emotions. Emotional appeal can be met in a series of ways such as through symbolism, humor, storytelling and constant references such as to undocumented Mexicans as Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has done over and over. Now this man is smart he is appealing to every emotion we have anger, frustration, pride you name it. Trump references constantly to the undocumented immigrants for the stack of America’s problems, like violence and economy troubles. Trump uses his ethos to discredit all undocumented workers by stating false accusations like categorizing illegal immigrants as violent, rapists, harm for the economy or job
stealers. Then he comes in with the pathos in his arguments stirring emotions of fear that undocumented Mexicans are hurting America. Trump uses storytelling to cast an image of violent undocumented immigrants who come to our territory and steal our jobs and rape OUR women. Of course your angry especially if you are an unemployed American citizen he is using his pathos to appeal to your emotions, to your anger and its working. Then when all this is said and done he appeals to our sense of pride by stating he is going to “Make America Great Again” then the crowd goes wild. How is he going to “Make America Great Again”? By building a wall, a wall which those violent, job stealing, raping undocumented Mexicans are going to have to build themselves.
