Born August 26th, 1957 in port alberni
Grew up in St. John, Abbotsford and Williams Lake, B.C
Known as a natural a athlete and was very passionate about fishing and sports
He was 15 when him and his friend Don were riding in the back of a pick up truck returning home after a week long fishing trip when the truck went of the road and they were thrown out the back of the truck. He had a spinal cord injury and could never walk again. He was paralyzed form the last down.
Rick spent seven months in rehabilitation in Vancouver trying to learn how to deal with his new life and how to do daily activities being paralyzed.

He met Terry Fox and they became close friends
Rick became the first person with a disability to graduate with a degree in Physical Education at the University of British Columbia.
Between 1979 and 1984 he focused on track winning 19 international wheelchair marathons, the world title four times and nine gold medals at the 1982 Pan Am Games.
He won a gold and silver medal at the 1984 Paralympic Summer Games and a gold silver and bronze at the 1980 Paralympic Summer Games.
Rick is now the CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation and a passionate advocate for people with disabilities in Canada and around the world
He provides support to people with disabilities and is an inspirational speaker, while advising leaders on issues such as accessibility and inclusivity
Rick is married to Amanda and has three daughters Rebecca, Alana, and Emma
Man in Motion for World Tour
Rick set out on a tour that would make history in 1985 (MIMWT)
For 26 months him and his team wheeled over 40,000km through 34 countries
He raised awareness on people with disabilities, created accessible and inclusive communities, and finding a cure
