Introduction
Howard Zinn born August 24, 1922, was a very inspirational man in his time. He was a author, professor, historian and activist. His life work focused on issues of race, class and war and touched the lives of countless people. Many of his books and other works can be found today.
He joined the army air corps in his earlier years. He became a bombardier in B17. It wasn’t until later on that he questioned the necessity of actually dropping the bombs. When he returned home, he turned in all of his medals he earned and wrote “Never Again”.
Howard Zinn really had three major accomplishments in his life. His civil rights movement, his antiwar movement, and a publication of ‘A People’s History of the United States’. …show more content…

I.
Zinn was very passionate about being part of history and did so by helping in the civil rights movement.
A.He became an “Adult Adviser” to the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee and marched for civil rights with his students.
B.He had many meetings with civil rights leaders and sharecroppers and children who were involved in the movement.
C.He took many notes on what happened daytoday and recorded the history being made.
II.
Howard Zinn opposed to militarism.
A. He dedicated half a century opposing at home. He practiced what he preached and joined many picket lines of striking workers.
B.He endorsed and worked with the antiwar movement to build the stongest opposition to the Iraq invasion and other colonialtype wars.
C.One of the most remembered dates he marched he wrote “
I will be marching March, 17 with my wife, with friends, to express our solidarity with all those people all over the country who demand that the United States bring our troops back from Iraq.We need to make clear that the democrats in congress that we expect bold action from them to stop the war, to save lives of Americans and Iraqis, and use the enormous sums wasted on war to serve the needs of people.

Howard Zinn wrote a history textbook ‘A People’s History of the United States’.
A.This book provided other perspectives of American History and was a finalists for the ‘National Book Award’ in 1981.
B.It depicts the struggles of Native Americans agains
European and U.S. conquests and expansion, slaves against slavery, unionists and other workers against capitialists, women against patriachary, and African American civil rights.
C.The Zinn Education Project was started because of this book. It was launched to support educators using ‘A People’s History of the United States.
Conclusion
Civil rights were eventually established. People are still trying to get the troops brought home to this day. Zinn’s works and publications are read all the time.Howard Zinn helped in being a big part of many great movements and works. He was a great man many people appreciated and adored.
Zinn influences millions who have read his work and have been inspired by his actions. He left us with these encouraging words: “We don’t have to wait for some grand utopian
future.
The future is an endless succession of presents, and to live now as we think humans should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory”.
