Also, it states in “How to Survive Rip Currents”, “The lifesavers and lifeguards put the flags in the safest part of the beach, away from the rifts.” This shows that lifeguards need to have knowledge of rip currents, so they know where the current will go, so they can place flags where the current won’t go.
