By ignoring the problem the family normalises the problem, it could further be normalised if the entire family is obese. The consequences of these risk factors are that the individual does not address the situation thus the obesity grows progressively worse. Wrongly addressing the severity of the problem by means of emotional degradation causes the individual to develop several psychological disorders. Secondly, the lack of support from the peer group and family can hinder the individual’s decision to improve their health. The peer group is an important risk factor in the development of psychological disorders; bullying and social isolation for being obese is detrimental to their mental state.
The risk factors associated with the exo-system includes the food supply. The community environment promotes unhealthy eating habits as conveniently located stores sells predominantly non-nutritious and energy rich foods. Secondly, the community’s economic situation affects the individual’s food choices. The more healthy the individual tries to eat, the more expensive it becomes, whilst the least nutritious foods are the cheapest. Therefore, the individual more likely to purchase the filling and inexpensive food items, which they can
