Rixford Geometry Analysis

Studying artifacts is like looking through a keyhole into the past. Although artifacts themselves cannot speak, a lot can be learned from studying primary documents and artifacts. For thousands of years, historians have been using primary documents and artifacts to make inferences about the people, places, and events that surrounded the time period. In our study of the Rixford Cemetry, we were able to use primary documents and artifacts to make analyses about the surrounding area.
There are many inferences that can be made about the societal views of the dead during this time period based on the study of the cemetery. Firstly, the dead are buried with the headstones, often inscribed with the names of the buried, as well as the year of birth and death. It can be assumed that it is a societal norm in order to document and revisit the graves.

Some of the stones where flags were present were inscribed with names of wars that the buried served in, as well as the awards they received from that war. Many of the flags were held up by a tube with a star on it. The star often had a span of years on it. It can be inferred based on other graves with further information, paired with prior knowledge, that the graves marked by flags were veterans of war, who fought for the United States Armed Forces, being that the flags were US flags.
The evidence found in this cemetery, ranging from the early 1800s to about 2002, allows us to make reasonable deductions about the surrounding area, the people that lived there, and major events that took place at the time these people were living. Based on the primary artifacts in the Rixford Cemetery, we can reason that most of the people in the area were rather poor families, a portion of which contained veterans.
