Aesthetic Experience
On Saturday March 8 I attended the rockabilly festival that took place in Pitzer College. This was a great experience because I had the opportunity to feel what it was like during the rock n roll times. I was invited to go through Mr. Molina in MECHA to help out with fundraising. I was there all day selling raffle tickets to people who attended the festival in order to raise money for the MECHA scholarship. Through this experience I had the chance to practice on my communication skills by persuading people to buy tickets.
I enjoyed myself in the rockabilly festival because this was a new experience for me. I saw greasers everywhere and I felt like an outcast in my regular clothes. People were dressed so classy that it made me want to be a greaser for the day. Women wore long fluffy dresses with their hair all curled up with so much spray that it looked like it took hours to do. Men had their blouses tucked in with jeans that had the bottom folded to give it a greaser look. Men also had their hair styled up nicely with so much spray like the women did.
In addition, the festival pertained of people bringing in their classic cars to see which car was the best. What shocked me was that men worked months in order to prepare their cars for this festival. They had trophies for the best classic car contest up to 20th place so one can just imagine how many cars surrounded the festival. Also I had the opportunity to listen to live rock n roll music all day. There were different rock n roll bands alternating all day to get to hear a variety of rock n roll music. What I enjoyed most about the music was the fact that some members of the bands were playing unknown instruments to me that introduced me to new sounds and melodies. The bands were even selling their albums to the crowd in order to fundraise for the scholarship.
