Roller Coaster Observation Report
Last week, my group and I were constructing the roller coaster. I contributed by installing my funnel into the coaster. I did this by making adjusting the track so that it would lead the marble to the border of the tube. I did this because learned that when the marble spins around the edge of the tube, it increases the time which was what we wanted. After adjusting, I put supports on the funnel that would help the funnel maintain its shape to have the most maximum time possible. I also contributed by making tracks. I measured 3 centimeters for the width of the track so that we can fold the sides to ensure that the marble has a stable ride as well as a straight path. My group and I collectively observed the marble on its run and discussed to each other what one another saw. I saw that the marble was losing too much energy when making the loops, so I insisted that we increase the height of the roller coaster for the marble to have enough kinetic energy to go over two loops. My groupmates agreed, and we increased the height. After that, I timed the marble as it went through the coaster. It was eight seconds at first. That was nowhere close to the fifteen seconds, so I help adjust the funnel to increase the time. In the end, we manage to get a time of 11.75 seconds which was closer to fifteen seconds than eight seconds. Finally, we used a checklist to check off the things we are supposed to have. We had two straightaways a loop, but we didn’t have four original functions. It was too late for us to complete that because the height we used for the two loops, in the beginning, made our coaster a meter tall already. Any higher and we will not be able to move it through the door. Ultimately, we tried our best when constructing, but I lack the confidence of getting an a because we got points off for not having four unique features and not lasting at least fifth teen seconds.
