The Western Roman Empire had political problems, this was the start of the fall of the empire. The first problem was the unfit emperors. For example, Nero, Nero was a greedy emperor who burned down Roman land so he could build his own palace. Nero inherited the throne because there were not any vice emperors at the time. In fact, there were 37 emperors and most of them were assassinated by their own Praetorian Guards. This would lead to Roman legions fighting against other Roman legions. They would do this to decide who would become the next emperor. A problem that led to the fall of the empire was the size of it. Maintaining the Western Roman Empire became an issue because of the size. Also, Roman legions became weak because they were not focused on protecting their country, They were only concerned about their salaries and who owns the throne. They had no way to protect their natural borders. As a result, the Romans had to hire Germanic mercenaries. This was a problem because the Western Roman Empire was in a battle with Germanic tribes. Consequently, The mercenaries turned against the Romans. Similarly, the Germans broke the aqueducts making it hard for Romans to get water.
