Aspects such as religion and similar perspectives on life appear to some as the real strong basis needs for marriage. It is known that those who share the same beliefs and virtues get along the most, which promotes a better future for a couple.
People who disagree with the statement of romantic love being a poor basis for marriage may argue that marriage in the first place is all about the love between two souls. Religion and culture are basic factors when compared to love. Love is said to be powerful thus a common background for two lovers to have in order to fulfil their marriage. However, not all agree with this standpoint.
Another reason why romantic love would not be perceived as a real foundation for marriage is for the simple reason that love itself is not everlasting and perpetual but only ephemeral.
