The amazing green forests were filled with chestnuts and black pine trees. Next is Central Greece, it is more mountainous than Northern Greece and contained 7 countries. One of them was Attica. Attica holds the city of Athens. Athens is surrounded by mountains, has dry hot summers, gets some rain in the fall, and has medium winters and snows very little. Last is the Peloponnese. It is covered by the Mount Taygetos mountain range. There are two groups of islands in the region consisting of the Saronic Islands and the Ionian Islands. There are many gods in total but only 12 primary olympian gods. Three of them are Athena, Apollo, and Ares. The first goddess Athena was the goddess of many things including courage, law and justice, strategic warfare, and strength. Athena was the daughter of Zeus but no mother bore her. She was also the goddess of war, Ares female counterpart. Every four years the Athenians dedicated their most important religious festival to her; the Panathenaea. It lasted 6 days and consisted of banquets, athletic contests, music, and dancing. The climax of the celebration was a procession thousands of people. The second god is Ares, he is the god of war but represents the violent unkempt aspect of war. He was also the son of Zeus and his mother Hera. Ares was not worshiped very often because not many people were very fond of him including his parents. Last is Apollo he is the god of many things such as archery, medicine, sun, light, and knowledge. He was the son of Zeus and the Titan Leto.
