Ancient Greece and Rome both treated women as political inferiors, but throughout the reign on their empires, women steadily began to receive more and more rights. This is greatly connected to present day because women have always been seen as subordinate but have increasingly experienced more rights given to them as the existence of the human race continues. In addition, both Greece and Rome had other substantial governmental items that have been perceived in today’s community. Unlike Rome, Greece established a system called “demos,” or democracy, government by the people. Similar to Greece, an occurrence of democracy is seen in the United States of America. The United States tries to promote democracy within its nation through the fact that all citizens are given the right to vote and elect the president of the country. In addition, the United States is also similar to Ancient Rome through the division of the nation into classes. Rome had two classes, the patricians, the higher class, and the plebeians, the lower class. In the same way, society today can be divided into three classes, the high class, the middle class, and the lower class. The differentiation between these classes can be shown through the amount of money they have and the types of careers they hold.
