In Romeo and Juliet many coincidences occurred. Romeo and Juliet are enemies from different feuding families and they are in love. The night of the party is the day Benvoilio wants to cheer up Romeo. Both Romeo and Juliet drink potions to "die." These three coincidences make Romeo and Juliet move the story along.
Many different language tricks are embodied in Romeo and Juliet. “Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the dashing rocks thy seasick weary run,” is an example of a metaphor. Reversed words for instance “upfill” are also used. Numerous references applying classical allusion are utilized. “At lover’s perjuries, they say Jove laughs,” is a citation. These types of descriptions make Romeo and Juliet more fun to read.
Secondary characters were also used to move the plot along in Romeo and Juliet. Lord Capulet orders Juliet to marry Paris. Friar John was quarantined so the letter could not reach Romeo. Apothecary sold the poison to Romeo so he could kill himself at Juliet’s side. Without all of these secondary characters the story line would have been drastically different.
The use of coincidence, language tricks, and secondary characters has made Romeo and Juliet popular for 400 years. This tragic story ended with their suicides, because of their feuding families. Today, many people especially children today die because of feuds. Time and time again, we hear of young gang members killing innocent children. These happenings are more tragic because they involve real people and not characters in a story.

In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet speaks of her love for Romeo to herself on her balcony in Act 2, Scene 2. Juliet’s obedience to her family is violated when she falls in love with Romeo Montague instead of County Paris. In Juliet’s soliloquy, she ponders “’tis but thy name that is my enemy,” (2.2.38) meaning a name is a meaningless title in the way of her love. Juliet’s use of personification enhances the stupidity of the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets because a name is restraining her love. Upon meeting Romeo, Juliet is able to see past Romeo’s name and view Romeo as a person not the enemy. Juliet realizes Romeo would still be the same without the name Montague and leads her to the question, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any word would smell as sweet,” (2.2.43-44). Juliet reveals through the metaphor Romeo’s true identity has a stronger effect than a name. The effect is so strong it causes Juliet to disregard the thoughts of her family. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. “Hatred and violence breed only tragedy”, is a major theme in this play. The Montague and Capulet are two rival families. They were involved in a family feud that goes back years before anyone can remember. However, the grudge still continues, due to the fact that both families are not ready to forgive and forget the past. The families’ ongoing quarrels and feud, lead to the deaths of several characters including the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The characters who died first in Romeo and Juliet are Mercutio and Tybalt. They were associated in each other’s deaths. Tybalt, hot-tempered cousin of Juliet, vowed to get revenge on Romeo for sneaking in to the Capulet Ball without an invitation. The day Tybalt came seeking for Romeo, is the day he was wedded to young Juliet. Romeo wants to keep peace between him and his new relative but Tybalt keeps tantalizing him with rude insults and remarks. Romeo, not wanting to pick a fight, retrieves and soon Mercutio jumps in because he wants to defend his best friend. Tybalt and Mercutio challenge each other to a sword fight.
