Romeo and Juliet Questions
Act One. Scene 3. Question 5.
Like a lot of other mother daughter relationships, Lady Capulet and her daughter clearly have a troubled one. The relationship between Lady Capulet and Juliet are strained and distant. Lady Capulet does try and make an effort to reach out to her daughter now that she is old enough to get married, but it's obvious that Juliet's closest bond is with the Nurse because she is the one that Juliet tells everything to. Lady Capulet never even comes close to challenging that. If Juliet was as close to her mother as she was with the Nurse she would have no problem telling her about Romeo and their marriage.
As a result, Lady Capulet doesn't seem like the greatest mom ever. The big question with her character is why. Why isn't she closer to her daughter like Nurse? Why isn't she supportive when Juliet needs her most the way Nurse is? Just when Juliet needs her mom's support the most, Lady Capulet doesn't even listen to her daughter's pleas to help her avoid marrying Paris, she just ignores it and goes along with her business. After Lord Capulet storms out, Juliet turns to her mother to get her father to soften the punishment. Juliet begs her even to delay the marriage. Lady Capulet responds to her by saying, "Talk not to me, for I'll not say a word / Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee" (3.5.15).

He goes right into things without thinking about them or the consequences they could have. Like in scene 1 when him and Tybalt are fighting. Tybalt is being completely serious and isn't messing around when they're fighting, while he is goofing off and prancing around and pretending to fight him and isn't taking it seriously, and because
