In my Englsih 1 Hnr's class we have been studying romeo and juliet we have watched the 1996 movie,2013 play ,1968 movie, in this paper i would like to tell you about them and compared and explain their differences. Romeo and Juliet is a very beautiful love story with a tragic ending but you know what they say all good things must come to an end.
The first thing we watched was the play which was made in 2013 this production was filmed in Broadway but it depicts Romeo and his Montague family with white actors, while Juliet and her Capulet family are depicted with black actors. The production was a modernization featuring a Triumph motorcycle and zip-up jackets. Really i think that this play has not been introduced well, but it has and explanation to as our world today black and whites are still separated today not too much separated but all of us don't get along like we should as …show more content…
Black/White this was not really my favorite but when i did research on it i thought it was very cool how they compared it like that when i watched it i never really looked at it like hey one side is white and the other is black but when you think about it that is how we are today.
Now we are on to the 1996 which was filmed in Verona Beach the boy who played romeo was 21 and the girl who played juliet was 17, he Capulets and the Montagues are arch-rivals.The animosity of the older generation Fulgencio and Gloria Capulet and Ted and Caroline Montague is felt by their younger relatives. A gunfight between the Montague boys led by Benvolio, Romeo's cousin, and the Capulet boys led by Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, creates chaos in the city. The Chief of Police, Captain Prince, reprimands the families, warning them that if such behavior continues, their lives "shall pay the forfeit of the peace". This is more like a modern day movie with a western side with guns and stuff not your average romeo and juliet movie i expect william shakespeare's play to be more elegant and less westerny.
Last but not least my favorite movie we watched the 1968 Romeo and Juliet, i really expected this one to be bad because it was so old and i dislike old movie but it was so good. It was filmed in italy the Juliet was 15 and Romeo was 17 the outfits were amazing they had the feeling like this was what they wore in romeo and juliet's time the longstanding feud between the Montague and the Capulet clans breaks out in a street brawl, broken up by the Prince of the city. The same night, two teenagers of the two families Romeo and Juliet meet at a Capulet masked ball and become deeply infatuated. Later, Romeo stumbles into the secluded garden under Juliet's bedroom balcony and the two exchange impassioned pledges.
There are also some things they were different and alike in these movies/plays in the 2013 and the 1968 which were both movies are based in Verona during the renaissance era. The 1968 movie went through every scene at a good pace. Like the scenes of the party and most famous, the balcony. The difference is big. The party itself took time with the dance, romeo laying his eyes on Juliet, and their kissing scene. With taking good time the movie felt legit, there was more of a classic feeling. 2013 version didn’t have a classic feeling, I believe it was the scene time. 1968, at the party the song “What is a Youth” gave the movie viewers a feeling of love and it gave me chills. None of that was felt in the party scene for the 2013 version. Also the cameras were very different the 60s camera compared to 2013 cameras. 2013 the room of juliet death scene was like almost empty but 1968 the corpse lined up a bunch of them. They also begin very differently.
Another is the 1996 and the 1968 In the 1968 version the setting is held in a type of medieval setting of a castle and the courtyard.
The 1996 version is held in the modern day urban city, and changes the viewpoint and perception of the play. The Zeffirelli version seems to be much more accurate to reenacting the play's setting because they filmed on a site with castles, and helped the viewer visualize what the play scene was like. The Luhrmann version changes the view of the play by having mansions instead of castles and streets instead of dirt roads. The two films are similar because they both capture the play's sad story, and they both leave out some parts of the play. Both films used the lines from William Shakespeare's play, and they had a common emotion of lines spoken in the play, and the scene where mercutio dies is similar because it is played off as a joke that Mercutio was hurt, but he really was they thought he was drunk or something and they laughed. The endings were different but both were effective in capturing the tragic end to Romeo and Juliet's
love.
The Last Comparison i wanna make is the 2013 play and the 1996 version in my opinion they were both not that good but int the beginning they both begin with a fight and and do good explaining the death of the too love birds. In the 1996 ending juliet was waking up after romeo kissed her kinda giving it a disney princess motive but he didn't notice until she touched his face but he had already had some in his mouthwhich killed him but she still tried to kiss him to get it off his lips and she shot herself were as to the 2013 play Juliet stabbed herself and but she also tried to kiss romeo to get some of the poison he drank off his lips to be with her true love for eternity.
In conclusion they all explained the tragic love story of romeo and juliet some in different ways but you still get the meaning
