That would explain to Romeo what the plan was. It was going to give Romeo the reassurance that Juliet was alright. However he trusted someone else with this job not explaining to them how important it was that the letter was delivered. Friar John, which was the person who was supposed to deliver the message to Romeo couldn’t deliver the message. When he got back he told Friar Lawrence “I could not send it-here it is again- Nor get a messenger to bring it thee, so fearful were they of the infection” The Letter wasn’t delivered because Friar John stopped to help someone with a sickness that was going around, but he didn’t think it was a big deal that the letter wasn’t delivered until Friar Lawrence said “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, the letter was not nice but full of charge, of dear import, and the neglecting it may do much danger"
If these two mistakes weren’t made, the lives of Romeo and Juliet could have been spared. If these mistakes weren’t made the course of the story could have changed and lives would have been spared. If Friar Lawrence not given Juliet the poison she never would have been put in a position she was in, which lead to her death, and if Friar Lawrence had told Friar John what was in the letter and why it was so important, Romeo wouldn’t’ have thought Juliet was dead and he wouldn’t have killed himself.
