Romus Eulogy
I woke up today to see that it was going to be just as any other hard and challenging work day. As usual I got up before the sun had come out to make myself breakfast which at usual was a loaf of bread and a chunk of whatever meat I could find. I lived with my wife, two sons and Adobis and Romus who were my familys slaves. My family wasnt the richest of families but we still earned enough money through our farm to pay for our food and clothing. Unlike most Roman farmers we didnt go back into the main city often, but we stayed in our farm admiring its peace and beauty. However my wife and I could no longer afford to send or two sons to school any more as there was a drought upon Rome, causing less food to be grown on our farm, therefore causing …show more content…
We both knew that we were both in for a hard days work as we had to plough the land. Romus was a skinny figure. His ears stuck out and he had bulging blue eyes. I knew that he desperately wanted to be a free man and to be living his own life rather than someone elses. However I could not afford to release Romus or Adobis as my family and I needed all the help that we could possibly get. Unlike Romus, Adobis was quite a big figure. He had brown eyes with dark brown hair but was quite nervous for no particular reason for most of the …show more content…
I was also nervous as much of the livestock and the wheat depended greatly on rain and there wasnt any for the past few weeks, and to me it certainly didnt look like it was going to arrive anytime soon..

Nor my wife or kids had cooked dinner that night so I went without. I took a big loaf of bread, got some money and made my way off for the town to buy goods for us all. Adobis offered to come with me abut I declined the offer as I knew that he wasnt feeling way and wouldnt be up to the challenge of the and a half walk there and back .

I started my journey at 7:30 pm and arrived home at 10:56. I had little luck buying food at a decent price that night. Many of the farmers were experiencing the same problems as my family and I were with the drought and such I thought.

I was beginning to worry about the drought now. My earnings were at an all time low and it hadnt rained for exactly twelve weeks. I tried to send Adobis to a hospital but they sent him back straight after they found how that he wasnt a free man but was a

In Romulus, My Father, the loneliness and desolation felt by immigrants is highlighted by the language used to describe the natural environment surrounding Romulus and Christine at the time, and is juxtaposed with Raimond’s view of the landscape. The use of alliteration in “European or English eye” used to describe Romulus’ perspective of the landscape highlights the inability for Romulus to adapt to the new environment due to his strong connection to his homeland and Raimond states that “even after forty years, my father could not become reconciled to it”. Likewise, to Christine, her new life in Australia was one of isolation and loneliness. “A dead red gum stood only a hundred metres from the house and became for my mother a symbol of her desolation”. The use of red imagery evokes thoughts relating to death, emphasised by the word “dead” preceding…

Both Pericles “Funeral Oration” and George W. Bush’s address to the nation after the 9/11 terrorist attack were given at times of grief and mourning. Pericles “Funeral Oration” was given in 431 BC after the end of the first year of the Peloponnesian War. Pericles gave this speech to pay tribute to the people lost in battle. Pericles was chosen to give the “Funeral Oration” by the city of Athens as he was a leading citizen of Athens, as he was an orator and general during the Golden Age. This was the same for George W. Bush, he was a leading citizen in the United States of America. As he was the president of that country, it only seemed fitting for him to give the speech. George W. Bush addressed to the nation was given on September 11, 2002 at Ellis Island in New York, New York. After the terrorist attack by the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda on 9/11.…

Several philosophers and thinkers have graced Athens but none probably have described Athens as vividly as Pericles did with his funeral speech delivered in honor of the martyrs of the Peloponnesian War. This speech was given almost a year after the Peloponnesian War started and its purpose was to inspire both the citizens and the army of Athens. In his speech Pericles describes Athens as a flawless state when compared with its contemporaries. Pericles highlighted the achievements of Athens in almost every sphere ranging from its military prowess to its conduct of justice and equal opportunity to the most ordinary of its citizens regardless of his class or economic status. Pericles proclaims Athens as…

Hello. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Gene Forrester. I was Phineas’ roommate and best friend. We are here today to pay tribute to and celebrate Finny’s remarkable life. Truth be told, writing this speech was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. It wasn’t challenging because I knew too little about Finny to share, but because I knew too much. I knew Phineas better than anyone else; we were constant companions. We were two parts of one whole and the more I got to know Finny the more proud I became to be his friend. He was talented, virtuous, joyful, and so much more. It is a tragedy that a person as young and precious as Finny has been taken so soon. Finny affected us all in ways we can’t even imagine.…

How does being the king feel? It must feel like a relief because you had to kill your brother to get in this position. Did you kill your brother out of hatred or did you still care for him because I am very eager to know. I bet being the king is a hard task, I have not been one myself because I am simply a woman, but it seems hard enough just to help one person with their problem, but with millions of people, that must be the toughest task in the world! I admire that you were cared for by a she-wolf when you grew up. Do you remember any of it? I bet it was hard, knowing that no one except for a she-wolf would care for you, until Faustulus, the shepherd came along. Did you admire the she wolf? If I were you I would of ran…

While reading the Funeral Oration made by Pericles, son of Xanthippus and a Athenian General, I realized that he made some statements about Athens that did not seem quite right, in fact down right boastful in certain places. So I did some research and found a few other sources that wrote about that same speech to include my history textbook to see if what I was reading/thinking was correct. My objective with this essay is to show three instances of the speech that Pericles exaggerated or flat out lied in.…

In the aftermath of the Peloponnesian War, Pericles delivered a very powerful panegyric for the fallen warriors. He assured the people that Athens was in good hands. He uses words throughout his speech to gain a positive emotional appeal and transform the perception of himself to his audience. He makes a very bold statement when he says “our form of government does not enter into rivalry with the institutions of others.” Pericles wants other nations to know that the way Athens is governed does not disturb the way other nations are ruled or to change the way they are governed, nor does it try to challenge other governments. Pericles feels that the way Athens is ruled does not clash with other governments and he justifies his claim by stating “our government does not copy our neighbors’, but is an example to them.” He is consoling his audience by letting them know that their fallen warriors did not die in vain. He reaffirms to them that Athens is the best, “because it is a democracy, the administration is in the hands of the many and not of the few.”…

Hello and thank you all for coming. Today we are gathered to mourn the loss of a spectacular individual who stood next to me through the thick and thin, through the good and bad, and has left my heart with a crater big enough to engulf the world, Mrs. Mallard. She was a faithful and devout woman whom I am proud to call my wife. We spent many years together, during which I always tried to make her happy. Yet recently all the memories of her and I have come flooding back to me in tidal waves of emotions, and after consideration I feel I have not done enough. I did not cherish every second of every minute of every hour I was with her and it devastates me at this time, but that’s how it always goes I suppose. But not for her. Mrs. Mallard ensured my life was as simplistic and easy going as she could. Whether it was her loving support, physical labors, or the smiles she would give me which could outshine the moon. She would always know what I needed and would move mountains to make sure I had it. Her affection was so strong that it ultimately caused her passing. After being told I had perished in a mining incident she become so distressed that her heart could not handle the news that I was still alive. She had always had complications with that immense heart of hers, it was her Achilles heel. The one thing which chained her from ascending to the perfect woman, the one trade off which god decided he needed to bestow upon her so she would not take the role of a demi-god. However I know now that she is the most eloquent and beautiful angel heaven has ever seen and they will treasure her in ways I never could. This is the only fact which has kept me sane through this abysmal time. Everyone will now be able to pay their individual respects to Mrs. Mallard, and once again thank you for coming.…
