John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, called Ronald by his family and friends, was the author of the trilogy novel “The Lord of the Rings”. He was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. His parents are Arthur and Mabel. Mabel died because of diabetes which at that time is incurable. Ronald became an orphan cared by a Catholic priest and ended up in the boarding house of Mrs. Faulkner. There, he meets Edith Bratt with whom he builds friendship and then a romance.
Ronald enrolled to Exeter College, Oxford, where he focused in the classics and developed an interest for philology, the study and comparison of languages. He also studied other languages such as Gothic and Finnish.
