The Rosetta Stone was the key to understanding Egyptan hieroglyphs and is one of the most precious and valuable treasures of British museum now. The Rosetta Stone is a stone which has writing on it using three scripts. The Stone was written in three scripts because when it was written, all three scipts were being used in Egypt. So the priests, government officials and rulers of Egypt could read it. The first was hieroglyphic which was used for documents about religion. The second was demotic (the common script of Egypt) and the third was Greek. Greek was the language which used by the rulers of Egypt. Bouchard was supervising the restoration of an old fort near the town of Rosetta when he found the stone and when he realized the value of it, he informed general Jacques-Francoise Menou and then the stone has send to Napoleon himself. It is called the Rosetta Stone because it was discovered in a small village called Rosetta.
