Mormons
1. From Palmyra to Paradise
Today the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, better known as the Mormon church, is one of the world’s richest and fastest growing religious movements.
Joseph Smith then claimed he received a series of revelations beginning in 1823 in which he was visited by the angel Moroni.
2. God or Gods
In Mormon teaching, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are each a distinct God.
If God could progress from human to divine being, it is then possible for all humans to achieve divinity if the right path is followed.
3. The Plan of Salvation
Grace is simply the mercy, the love and the condescension God has for His children, as a result of which he has ordained the plan of salvation so that they may have the power to progress and become like Him.
4. The church lost and restored
The Mormon Church teaches that for a few years after Christ’s ascension, the church remained fully organized and intact. But then a universal apostasy (falling away from the truth) took place. Gradually the church lost its marks. The scriptures were altered, and when the apostles were killed, they were not replaced. At last about six hundred years after Christ, the gospel laws and ordinances had become so completely warped that it was as if the church had departed from the earth. Here then is the reason for the existence of the Mormon church.
5. The Golden Plates and the Golden Casket
Joseph claimed that the language of the golden plates was an altered, or reformed Egyptian. However, Egyptian hieroglyphics remained untranslatable until 1837 when the grammar worked out from the Rosetta Stone was made public.
