Ross David Baron's Influence On Society
Do you believe that you have potential given to you from God Himself? Do you also believe that you can become something great one day if you just put your mind and heart to it? It is so easy for people these days to not believe in themselves. Negativity and laziness is so common in our society that it causes people to not believe that they can become great and it will cause them to work less for a better future. Undermining our potential in life is a disgrace to our Heavenly Father. He has done everything in His power to give us all amazing potential. He created us in His image so that we would have our own gifts and talents. By taking a glance at the life of Ross David Baron, Professor of Religion and Humanities at Brigham Young University-Idaho, …show more content…
I grew up in the Cresthaven Ward with Brother Baron as my Young Men’s leader for many years. Spending much time around him at activities, Boy Scout camps, and meetings, I was inspired by him in many ways. Through his leadership, he helped me make good choices and learn important life lessons. It is apparent that if a youth has an influential leader in their life during their teenage years then they will be more likely to make smart life choices at the end of those teenage years. Brother Baron’s influence on my life has helped me smartly make those choices and has showed me that I have divine potential given to me from on …show more content…
Forget high school, cause I was a knuckle head. But, after my mission, if you would have said, ‘Show me what your life is going to be like.’ I thought I was going to be a big businessman. But, the Lord will, if you’re open, take you in different paths. He took me on a path that I would have never in a million years expected be taken on…In fact, when I was in Southern California I was an Institute director. I had an amazing flourishing institute. We were in a beautiful home. We were near my family. Life was amazing…it was great! I never knew anything about Rexburg, Idaho. I get this generic email that they send to a thousand people that says that there is a position open at BYU-Idaho. Then, I get this impression that I am supposed to apply. The minute I showed the letter to my wife she told me that I should apply. She told me that she felt like it was time that we start something new in our lives. I didn’t know a soul, not one up here. It wasn’t like I called my buddy up here to get me in. I sent in my application and did not hear a word for almost two months. The deadline was December 23rd. I didn’t hear back till the beginning of February. Then I get a call. ‘Hi, you’ve made the final six. We’d like you to come up and interview. I was shocked. So, I come up and interview. My wife and I are walking around campus and we easily felt that Spirit. My wife, Kathleen, says to me, ‘You better get this job.’ But anyways, I

A major part of the book is on how God develops a leader over time. Many young leaders don’t understand that there is a process that one has to go through in order to lead others. That process does not happen overnight. In fact the process never stops. God is always processing us to serve Him and His church better. These times of processing can occur because of crises, illness, persecution or discipline, self-choice, or providential circumstances.1 These moments of process are times where God teaches us life and leadership lessons. We are not only shaped by our training but also by our experiences.…

The high school has given me all types of opportunities from discipline to study options and also preparing me for college and the real world. I’s truly grateful for all the supports given to get this far because high school helped changed and mold me to become the young lady that I is today. It helped further my education and I continue to pray to the lord above that I can stay on track because only God knows where I’m headed with this education; but for sure it’s for a better me. Hopefully my years at Concordia will be the years of…

I first thought I was going to change the world or at least make a difference through physical therapy. That was what I had my mind set on, even throughout high school. But then my world turned a complete 180. I had to move to Nowhere, Texas with my mom, dad, two older sisters, and their kids (my niece and nephew); Charlotte and Cillian. It was weird, hard, and the last thing I ever wanted. Although the move had nothing to do with my career goals, it was another thing that I questioned along with everything that was going on in my life at the time.…

It wasn’t until the end of my freshman year that I began to understand part of the connotation of his words. He was a man to speak from experience, and I truly believed him. That same year, I was named number 5 of my class, tied with four other people, for the class of 2016, with a GPA of 3.900. Quite frankly, I was surprised to see how far I had gotten up without knowing or trying as hard as I could have. As I entered sophomore year, I began with a determined mindset. A mindset that was moderately similar to the one I had been surrounded with in band. As my director spoke about how one’s determination, integrity and work ethic can take a person with nothing to the end of the line with everything. I had never thought about how obtainable the craziest dream could really be until this individual shared his ideals with the rest of the family…

I never thought this day would come as fast as it did. I feel like this year is just going to fly by and the next thing I know I’ll be packing to go to college, but let me not get ahead of myself. I remember always being asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The funny thing is, I’ve always known. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I can look back to my younger years and remember playing teacher, writing out worksheets, teaching classes with my cousins. It’s something I always enjoyed.…

I had always heard the same thing, “Graduate from a good college and find a decent living, and you’ll be happy and successful.” Hah! What a capitalistic, factory-produced, mind-n(d)umbing fairy tale to tell impressionable children, I thought. Nope, I was smarter than that. I would be the one to take the road less traveled—to go against the grain and live my own life the way I wanted to. After barely graduating high school with a GED (or a GED equivalent actually…), I took off to LA to become a music-producer. I was going to be big. I learned the trade, worked inside multi-million dollar studios, and formed a band. I had it all figured out and I was going to show everybody that school was for fools. As with everything in life, this intoxicating success did not last. I began to feel something was missing. Here I was, living the dream that I had imagined for myself, and yet, I didn't feel much fulfillment.…

I had recently asked God to show me the plan He has for my life. Every time I seek Him He shows me glimpses into His plan. I have always loved helping others in need, so when I was a child I wanted to be a teacher/softball coach. As a sophomore I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior. Once I let Him in my desires for my future began to change. He put in my heart to do some sort of missionary work. As I pondered about the idea of traveling and sharing the Good News, a voice from above began to speak to my heart. He put in my heart to pursue a career in the medical field! I felt that not only will I be…

“You’ll never make it,” they all said, my boyfriend, family, teachers, and friends. It was like my life was already figured out for me, as if I didn’t have a say. The message was loud and clear. They all expected me to fail, to settle for a minimum wage paying job, to settle for just a high school diploma. For a while I went around believing that all I could do was the minimum required. But then I realized that I was capable of doing so much more. As time went on I realized that I did not have to live up to other’s low expectations and I started making a name for myself. I knew that studying a little harder for every test, joining clubs, volunteering, and running for leadership positions would later pay off.…
