I grew up in the Cresthaven Ward with Brother Baron as my Young Men’s leader for many years. Spending much time around him at activities, Boy Scout camps, and meetings, I was inspired by him in many ways. Through his leadership, he helped me make good choices and learn important life lessons. It is apparent that if a youth has an influential leader in their life during their teenage years then they will be more likely to make smart life choices at the end of those teenage years. Forget high school, cause I was a knuckle head. But, after my mission, if you would have said, ‘Show me what your life is going to be like.’ I thought I was going to be a big businessman. But, the Lord will, if you’re open, take you in different paths. He took me on a path that I would have never in a million years expected be taken on…In fact, when I was in Southern California I was an Institute director. I had an amazing flourishing institute. We were in a beautiful home. We were near my family. Life was amazing…it was great! I never knew anything about Rexburg, Idaho. I get this generic email that they send to a thousand people that says that there is a position open at BYU-Idaho. Then, I get this impression that I am supposed to apply. The minute I showed the letter to my wife she told me that I should apply. She told me that she felt like it was time that we start something new in our lives. I didn’t know a soul, not one up here. It wasn’t like I called my buddy up here to get me in. I sent in my application and did not hear a word for almost two months. The deadline was December 23rd. I didn’t hear back till the beginning of February. Then I get a call. ‘Hi, you’ve made the final six. We’d like you to come up and interview. I was shocked. So, I come up and interview.
