Business Makers: Roy Donahue Peebles Roy Donahue Peebles was born March 2, 1960 to a car mechanic and public servant. Peebles grew up in Washington, D.C. After his parents divorce, at the age of eight he moved to Detroit for six months with is mother. Eventually he moved back to Washington, D.C. with his father. In high school, Peebles worked as a Congressional Page. After graduating with the class of 1978, He enrolled at Rutgers University where his major was medicine. While in college Peebles became a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. Not completing his degree, Peebles decided to get a job as an appraiser in the real estate business.
At the age of 23 Peebles established RDP Corporation, a real estate appraisal firm. Board of Real Property Assessments and Appeals appointed him later that year. Excelling to the top, a year later, Pebbles was enhanced up to chairperson by Washington’s Mayor Marion Barry, becoming the youngest chairman. I did my research and Pebbles name was the only name that popped up. Constantly it ran through my head, how did he get there, and what did he have to do to make it. For Don Peebles to not finish college and to accomplish so much shows me it is not about what you did it is about what you can do. His dedication to succeeding in a business he knew he was good at helped him get to where he is at now. I also thought that it was interesting how he started as an intern for the white house to serving as a Board member for the White House. In an interview they asked him what influenced him and his answer was “My mother worked really hard, so I didn’t want to burden her with me”. This relates to my situation also.     Early Education: At a young age, he loved drawing, tracing and being creative but this was discouraged by his parents. In 1900 he graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco and in 1904, he graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of California, Berkeley .
