Rube- Goldberg machines are often complex inventions or contraptions that consist of a chain reaction in order to complete a simple task. The task of our Rube-Goldberg machine was to place a bingo chip on the bingo board in order to “win” bingo! Our machine had multiple transfers of energy which consisted of both kinetic and potential energy. Overall, our machine displays eight simple machines that all consist of transfers of energy in the process. To begin, our contraception begins by placing a ball into a bingo spinner. Before the ball is placed into the spinner the ball has potential energy, but as soon as it is dropped the potential energy transfers to kinetic energy due to the ball spinning in the wheel. Next, the ball rolls …show more content…
The levers job is to change the magnitude of the force, the marlboro, which it does, but a transfer of energy does not necessarily occur. After the change in the direction caused by the lever the marlboro is then jolted into a pool noodle which aids the ball into a spinning tube. The spinning tube causes the energy of the ball to become kinetic due to it increasing the ball's motion. After the ball finishes up in the spinning tube its kinetic energy causes it to hit a stack of dominos and cause them to fall over. Each upright domino consist of an abundance of potential energy. When the first domino is knocked over, the force of gravity turns that potential energy into enough kinetic energy to continuing toppling over the dominos. The dominos then go on to cause a pendulum to start swinging. As soon as the pendulum begins to move, its kinetic energy is at its highest and its potential energy is at its lowest. As the bob swings upwards it slows down which causes the kinetic energy to decrease as well. From the kinetic energy caused by pendulum it causes a ball to slide down a ramp which has potential energy and then the
