Learning about individuals with disabilities has made me more compassionate and tolerant of people who are different than me. Almost everything I have learned in this class has been relevant to my life, or to problems plaguing the world. For example, in this class I was made aware of the people first language. In my opinion, everyone should be educated on the people first language. The people first language puts the individual before their disability. A person is not autistic, rather you introduce the person first, and then follow by saying that they have autism. This change in wording has a tremendous effect on individuals with disabilities. Being educated on topics like this, is extremely important and is information that will be valuable in both my professional and private life.
