SWOT Analysis Of UPS
UPS (United Parcel Service Inc.) is an American company specialized on the global express delivery and logistics services. The headquarters of the company is located in Atlanta (Georgia). Daily the company delivers more than 17 million cargo to more than 9 million goods in more than 200 countries around the world (UPS, 2015).

The target activity of the company is a rapid delivery of goods and documents; however, in the organizational structure of UPS there is also a unit responsible for the management of supply chains (UPS Supply Chain Solutions, UPS SCS).

The company has its own airline, UPS Airlines, with its fleet of more than 230 airplanes, which is one of the biggest in the world by fleet size. This airline operates in more than 220

These principles guided the company until nowadays, as they helped at one time the company to achieve good results in their field and be ahead of the competition, remaining high quality and powerful brand up to now. In the given analysis would be given the comparison between UPS and one of its competitors GLS in respect of services offered.
Worldwide delivery of goods is not possible without the new and modern technologies. The technologies used by UPS are astonishingly variable — from small handheld devices to specially designed vehicles and global computer communications systems (Kohli, 2015). Even special guidelines in the Customer Service part of the website are presented to ensure that the customer can choose the most suitable packaging. In this regard, GLS is similar to UPS and this can be explained by the fact that in the modern logistics industry such kind of service is a must for staying in the competition.
The UPS’s liability on damaged or lost goods is limited depending on its type and the location of the recipient. According to its website, UPS covers up to hundred dollars on the cargos with no declared value and up to half of the previous amount additional coverage for the ones that have it (UPS, 2015). For the GLS the insurance strongly depends from country to country and type of damage that has occurred, therefore it is recommended to check the terms and conditions, which vary regarding different destinations (GLS, 2015).

    Now a billion dollar company, UPS had a very humble beginning. In 1907, a young man in Seattle, Washington named James E. Casey borrowed a $100 from a friend to create The American Messenger Company. James, along with his brother and friends, delivered packages, letters, and even food to restaurants locally.
