Power is the ability to influence people to perform in a specific way. The ambition of having power, has made humans influence other peoples’ lives and nature. For example, writer David Hume presented and criticized the “is-ought problem—the notion that we can derive what ought to be from an example of what is” (Barash 283). People are not satisfied with what is natural, so they want to go furthermore and try to change it, using any sources they have within their reach. We are unstoppable, the more we have the more we want.…

I believe that Joanna should recommend that Sam Wilson reorganize and restructure the department as a whole. They should assign roles to each individual depending on their job description, to avoid the problem of having some people doing more work than others. Also, the top management has to involve the department in decision making and engaging them in giving ideas and enhancing their services. For example, setting weekly or quarterly goals and trying to meet them. This step also allows the organization to evaluate themselves and knowing how they’re doing. The more the workers get involved in the strategic part of planning, the more they feel obliged to meet those goals and the more they feel loyal to the organization.…

This decision should be made by Dalman and Lei for two reasons. The first one is that the Daily Operations Manager will report directly to Dalman and Lei. The second one is that this new person will take over the job duties currently being handled by Dalman and Lei. Legitimate Power is where the leader has authority over the work activities and the target person complies out of obligation. This type of power is widely used in organizations. Reward Power is defined as the target person complies in order to obtain rewards that the leader controls (Yukl, 2010, Pg. 154). Reward power is used in many organizations and in my experience is combined with legitimate power. Coercive Power is power typically used in the military or maybe in prisons it is where the leaders use punishments to control the followers and where strict rules and regulations are present and where discipline must be maintained. Expert power is where the leader is believed to have special knowledge and skills on how to perform the job tasks. In my experience this is where the leader or manager would have most likely trained the target persons on how to perform the tasks or has performed the tasks and job duties themselves. In my last position at my current organization I reported to someone who…

Legitimate power appears to be derived from the formal position of a person in the organization which means the higher the position, the greater the power. For example, the boss has the power to decide to recruit or cut staffs, make capital expenditures and investment decisions. Actually, legitimate power is really useful. As…
