I would like to appeal my academic dismissal from University of Maryland University College (UMUC). I was not surprised, but I was unhappy to receive a letter after the spring 2016 semester informing me of my dismissal. I would like to urge you to reinstate me for the fall 2016 semester.
I acknowledge, I had a really hard time last semester, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't want to make excuses for my horrible college performance, but I want to explain the circumstances. I knew that working four different jobs would hinder me from doing well in school in my previous semesters. They required a lot of me, but I needed to earn enough money to pay for my tuition at school as I do not qualify for financial aid as a non-citizen student. I thought I would be able to handle the amount of work load and I still think I could have, but I managed my time poorly. Living in America for a long period of time before I was a teenager with no work permit or permission to travel back home (prior to the deferred action law that was passed recently which allows me to now work) took a toll on my mind. If I am reinstated, I will focus much better on my education, take fewer class hours, and manage my work time more wisely. Fortunately, I found a better job as a teller with better pay and tuition reimbursement. Also, I have spoken with an advisor, and I followed her advice about taking a course at a local community college.
