Sarcoidosis is a disease of unkown cause that leads to inflammation. This disease affects your body’s organs. These cells release chemicals that recruit other cells to isolate and destroy the harmful substance. Inflammation occurs during this process. Once the harmful substance is gone, the cells and the …show more content…
inflammation go away.
In people who have sarcoidosis, the inflammation doesnt go away. Instead, some of the immune system cells cluster to form lumps called granulomas in various organs in your body. The tissues tend to remain inflamed and become scared in cases where the granulomas do not heal and disappear. However, its more likely to affect some organs than others. The disease usually starts in the lungs, skin, and lymph nodes. It can usually affects the lymph nodes in your neck, chest and affects the eyes and liver. Although less common, sarcoidosis can affect the heart and brain, leading to serious complications. If many granulomas form in an organ, they can affect how the organ works. This can cause signs and symptom. Among these many symptoms are lung problems and dry cough, serve weight loss, chronic fatigue, high fevers, eye problems, and many others. Also can cause lumps, ulcers or areas of discolored skin. These signs tend to appear on your back, arms, legs and scalp. They are also brought out heavily when they come in or near contact with pine trees or pine fertilizers. Many people who have sarcoidosis have no signs or symptoms or mild ones. Often, the disease is found when a chest x-rays is done for another reason. These tests include x-rays, electrocardiograms, radioactive tracers, brain scans, and biopsies of the lungs, skin and liver. Some researches think that sarcoidosis develops if your immune system responds to a trigger, (depending on your genetic makeup), such as bacteria, viruses, dust, or chemicals. They may also complain of stuffy nose and chronic sin ulitis because sarcoid tissue can block the nasal passages. Normally, your immune system defends your body against foreign or harmful substances.
Certain genes may influence which organs are affected and the severity of your symptoms.
Sarcoidosis affects people of all ages and races. The disease is extremely rare in the children and the elderly. However, its more common among African-American and Northern Europeans said National Institutes Of Health. If somewhat more common in women than in men. The disease usually develops between the ages of 20 and 50. People who have a family history of sarcoidosis also are at higher risk for the disease. If you experience this diagnosis your doctor will diagnose sarcoidosis based on your medical history, a physical exam, and test results. He or She will look for granulomas in your organs. Your doctor also will try to rule out other possible causes of your symptoms. Not everyone who has sarcoidosis needs treatment. Sometimes the disease goes away on its own. Research is also being conducted to find evidence that would support theories that sarcoidosis is cause by genetic factors, immune system defects, or viral/bacterial infections. People who suspected of having sarcoidosis should be immediately tested for the effects of the disease. Since intraperitoneal sarcoidosis is extremely rare, the differential diagnosis is unlikely to include this condition in the context of presumptive ovarian cancer. However, in patients with a history of sarcoidosis, physicians should maintain a high index of suspicion to effectuate early detection and provide appropriate
treatment.
