Satire is typically intended to be comical although its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon and as a tool to draw attention to both particular and wider issues in society. In particular it aims to expose its audience to the nature of the political atmosphere by exploring the trivial and self-serving nature of governmental objectives. Rob Sitch’s television programme The Hollowmen ironically depicts the shallow values of contemporary Australian politics that appear to altruistically appease the stipulations of individuals and society. While The Ambassador reveals the skewed, self-serving nature of politics, Rear Vision conveys the duplicitous, impressionable practicality that overwhelms the proper political process. Similarly Reitman’s movie Thank You For Smoking controversial issues are brought to light, the way smoking is perceived in and by society as well as the inner workings of the government and how their authority and decisions can be swayed or negated by large corporations with smooth talking lobbyists. Stich and Reitman through there works both incite an awareness about issues crippling society by satirising governments and politicians, as well the impressionable, unthinking general public.…

Going back to the 1700's when America was in the process of becoming America, smoking has always been present. Now in present day America, walking down the streets of any town, or road, you see and smell the awful and thick smell of tobacco smoke. 9 out of 10 times you are guaranteed to find an old cigarette on the ground. Attempts to better this issue have been made of course. Gruesome commercials tell the terrible consequences of smoking on the body, taxes have been raised on them, but people continue to smoke. But there still are the good citizens of this country who do not have this awful habit and are free from those horrific consequences of smoking right? Although considering the problem of second-hand smoking many of those "non-smokers" are still affected. I think it is agreed by society as a whole that this problem must be fixed at once. Here I will provide two intelligent solutions to this problem that I have come up with being only a innocent bystander.…

Satire aims to expose to its audience the shortcomings of humanity through an assemblage of wit and mockery; it provides momentum for change and reform through ridicule. Robert Sitch’s television program ‘The Hollowmen’ seeks to expose the nepotistic and often superficial nature of Australian politics through the use of political satire, showing us that Australian politics is “inherently without values or moral grounding’ (Louise Staley). While ‘Fat Chance’ exposes the artificial nature of policy making, ‘The Ambassador’ seeks to accrue the idea that government policies are designed not for the good of the people, but instead to suit the government’s agenda. Contrastingly, Jamie Babbit’s 1999 film ‘But I’m A Cheerleader’ takes this mockery of comfortable, self-serving egotism and extends it to a witty depiction of Middle-American homophobia which is ultimately derived from society’s need to constrict sexuality and gender roles based on the ingrained stereotypes of the human psyche.…

In our society we all know that McDonalds and other companies target young kids into consuming their unhealthy food which causes obesity. Most kids are introduced into these kind of fast foods through advertising and toys which kids prefer the most. Some foods are addictive which makes them come for more and more and it makes them more obese. “advertising is nothing new, but is more prevalent than ever”.(Barboza) He also said that there are more schools that offer fast food choices mostly because some schools have contracts with companies. “You are what we eat”. (Ludwig Feuerbach). If you consume fat you become fat. If the Companies produce products or foods that are unhealthy for human consumption but for their own benefit they will find the most efficient and economical way to produce the food at a lower cost also that it’s affordable to most people. If companies become more responsible and produce food that are beneficial for human consumption then they would have had more costumers and more happy customers when it comes to their health. We should also realize that there are good and bad out there and our…

Without enough oxygen, we don't live long, hence the reason behind breathing! Breathing is not a difficult process, all you need to do is inhale and exhale oxygen again and again. It's not algebra; it's breathing! So why in the name of God do people have to breathe so loud? Like seriously!…

America today is in the middle of a nutritional crisis. Throughout the country, the obesity epidemic has struck every population demographic. According to recent projections made by the United States Government, 63.9 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese. That is over half of the population! What exactly is the culprit behind this crisis? How can someone fix this issue? The answers lie in the average American Diet. The diet consumed by Americans is one of, if not the worst diet in terms of saturated fat, trans fats, lack of carbohydrates, over consumption of protein, and overall malnutrition. Recommended Dietary Allowances adopted by nutritionists around the globe and countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia tell us that the American diet fails to come even close to proper nutritional consumption. However, the problem with the American diet is actually easily fixable if people start making smart, informed choices about their food. By properly educating the general public about nutrition and health, the obesity epidemic can be controlled and cured, leaving America with happier, healthier citizens.…

Basically, fast food is high in calories, salt, sodium, and fat. This can cause weight gain and diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and that is just naming a few. A survey of how often Americans ate fast food in the last 60 days states that 25% of Americans have eaten fast food everyday and it is only rising (Ludwig). However, there are certain problems nowadays that can affect the choices of selecting healthy food. One of the biggest problems is information failure and lack of information. Although there is information about the food, there are some products that give unclear, confusing or incomplete information about the products. The producers have the right not to tell whether it is the food grown using organic or conventional farming, so what looks like organic food, might not be organic at all. Also, there are no agreements between scientists that organic food is a good food; some may said that they are good, other argue that it is not. Furthermore, with the development of chemical, it can make unhealthy food, such as fast food to become much tastier that the actual taste, thus advertisement and sales promotion of unhealthy food on TV and media services have encourage people to use more unhealthy food rather than healthy food, for example, McDonald gives away free toys in kids meal, attracting children to eat McDonald…
