Saturated fat has all single bonds. Saturated fats are made of long chains of carbon atoms and they are together by single bonds such as; (-c-c-) they also can be linked by double bonds. Double bonds can react with hydrogen so it can form a single bond and that’s called saturated. They call it saturated because the bond will break and each half would connect to a hydrogen atom. Things that saturated fat is in are: cream, cheese, butter, and other dairy products. Saturated fats is also in vegetable oil like, coconut oil, and in palm kernel oil. Red meat and lamb has saturated fat. Single bonds of saturated fat is unhealthy, molecules with double bonds is considered to be healthier. Your cholesterol can raise from eating saturated
fats. “High levels of LDL cholesterol in your blood increases your risk of heart diseases and strokes”. Eating foods without saturated fat is healthier and you would have a low cholesterol. Saturated fats are normally solid at room temperature. Foods that contain saturated fat; butter, chicken fat, milk fat, cookies, donuts, pizza, and french fries. Its many more foods that contain saturated fat. Saturated fat is one of the unhealthy fats. Your body need healthy fats for energy and other things but a lot of saturated fat can cause arteries and your body to build up and you could gain weight. “ You should get no more than 25% to 30% of your daily calories from fat “. 10% of your daily calories should be saturated fat.
